As a seasoned clean beauty veteran, I’ll be honest when I say that many clean beauty products are often hit-or-miss. The truth is that some of the potentially toxic ingredients in most cosmetics are there for a reason – to make applications smooth, to provide good texture, to provide lasting coverage. So finding beauty products without the nasty chemicals that actually work are often hard to come by.
When I first heard about Bobbi Brown’s latest clean beauty venture, Jones Road Beauty, I was excited to give it a try. Bobbi Brown’s mascara and foundation stick were actually the first items of makeup I’ve ever owned. I remember when my mother brought me to the Bobbi Brown makeup counter at the mall, explaining to me how they were the best for “bringing out your natural beauty.” And I’ve been following that makeup philosophy ever since.
To my pleasant surprise, Jones Road Beauty does not disappoint. The brand embodies Bobbi Brown’s beauty expertise while adapting to the demand for clean and sustainable options. When you look at the brand’s Instagram or website, you’ll find a beautiful range of products that are not only easy to apply, but they’re effective in bringing out the natural beauty in everyone who wears it.
In my Jones Road Beauty review, I’m highlighting my top 5 favorite products and some things to note for each.
Jones Road Beauty Review – Testing Out Their Top Sellers
1. The Face Pencil
The Face Pencil is a multi-use face pencil that can be used as a concealer, for contouring, highlighting, and adding definition. Its one of the most-used products I own to this day. I love how easy it is to apply and blend, and how it comes in a variety of shades to suit a broad range of skin tones. For how light the formula feels, it has amazing coverage that blends seamlessly into the skin without creasing. It’s also long-lasting, so you won’t have to worry about touch-ups throughout the day.
2. Miracle Balm
Jone’s Road’s Miracle Balm is their viral multi-purpose balm that can be used on lips, cheeks, and eyes for a natural, dewy look. As someone who loves a natural, non-cakey look, I’m a big fan of the sheer, buildable formula. It gives my skin a subtle glow without feeling greasy or heavy. The balm comes in a range of shades, so you can choose the perfect hue for your skin tone (Golden Hour is my go-to.)
One thing to note – it does add a little “shimmer” effect but it does apply very light.
3. Cool Gloss
The Cool Gloss is a sheer, high-shine lip gloss that comes in several shades and provides hydration and long-lasting wear. I love how the gloss feels on my lips – it’s not sticky or goopy like some other glosses can be. The formula is perfectly pigminted and also packed with nourishing ingredients like jojoba oil and vitamin E, so your lips will stay soft and moisturized all day.
4. What The Foundation
What The Foundation is a lightweight, buildable foundation that comes in a range of shades and provides natural-looking coverage. I love how the formula blends seamlessly into the skin and doesn’t settle into fine lines or pores. The coverage is buildable, so you can achieve anything from a sheer, natural look to full coverage.
For those that prefer a “dewy” skin, this foundation is for you. If you’re more of a matte makeup lover, you’ll want a light layer of powder (which the company currently doesn’t offer.) .
One personal downside of the product is the smell – I’m not the biggest fan. But I find that it works extremely well for my skin type and the scent fades rather quickly. I also noticed some minor product separation when sitting for a bit (one of the minor downfalls of some natural foundations) but you can easily use a brush or q-tip to mix it up before applying.
5. The Mascara
The Mascara is a lengthening and volumizing mascara that comes in a sleek, minimalist tube. I’m a big fan of the brush, which separates and defines lashes without clumping or flaking. The formula is also smudge-proof and long-lasting, so you can wear it all day without worrying about touch-ups. This is, officially, my go-to & favorite mascara.
Is Jones Road Beauty clean & non-toxic?
“Clean” and “non-toxic” are terms thrown around left and right in marketing. So how clean is Jones Road Beauty?
The website states that the products contain zero phthalates, sulfates, petrolatum, PEGs, cyclic silicones, EDTA, or BPA (along many other toxic ingredients.) The brand actually follows guidelines that are even more stringent than those of the E.U. – which has the highest standards for clean beauty out there. So if having clean formulations are important to you, you don’t need to worry with Jones Road Beauty products.
My Personal Experience
Overall, I’m extremely impressed with the quality and versatility of Jones Road Beauty makeup products. The products definitely live up to the Bobbi Brown reputation and are easy to use and apply, especially for those who wear minimal makeup as is. I also appreciated the clean, eco-friendly packaging and the fact that the products were free of harmful chemicals.
In terms of our personal favorites, I have to give a shoutout to What The Foundation, which provides me natural-looking coverage without feeling heavy or cakey. Although, I will say adding a bit of powder from another brand helped it last a little longer (something I hope they come out with one day.) The Mascara and Pencil are also in my favorites list – they both provide *just enough* to make me feel like a more-put-together version of myself while keeping a natural look and feel.
All in all, Jones Road Beauty is worth the price tag. Not only are the products are clean, they work extremely well and have lasted me months without needing a refill.
