Plastic packaging is everywhere – it’s nearly impossible to escape it entirely. After adopting a few conscious shopping practices and shifting my routine, I’ve come to realize it’s actually pretty easy to reduce the amount of plastic in my daily routine.
Like practically everything else in life, there are two ways to develop a conscious habit: 1. make it available, and 2. be consistent with use. I recently invested in a few reusable goods (listed below) and found that I’ve been more mindful of my daily waste.
Need some shopping inspiration? Here’s our current favorite reusable food & drink containers and packaging:
Bee’s Wrap Reusable Beeswax Food Wraps
These beeswax reusable food wraps are a great sustainable alternative to plastic wrap. Use the warmth of your hands to soften the wrap and form over a bowl, container, or piece of food. As the bees wax paper wrap cools, it creates a seal and stores food naturally. You can easily reuse by washing the wrap in cool water with mild soap, then let it air dry.
Bee’s Wrap uses organic cotton, sustainably harvested bees wax, organic jojoba oil, tree resin, and even gets the seal of approval from the Global Organic Textile Standard.
The Porter Bowl
The Porter Bowl is a stylish ceramic to-go bowl thats perfect for transporting your salad, grain bowl or leftovers. This reusable food container features a protective silicone wrap, rigid plastic lid with a snap-tight silicone strap. Dishwasher + microwave safe and BPA-free. Fills up to one liter or 4.25 cups.
Hiware Reusable Glass Drinking Straws
If you’re wondering why people are opting for plastic straw alternatives, you’ve been living under a rock. Although banning plastic straws alone won’t cure the plastic crisis, these glass straws are a great go-to alternative for your favorite smoothie or drink. Bonus perk – they come with a straw cleaner too.
Stasher Reusable Bag
I’ve been using my stasher bags weekly since I bought my first one a few months back. These silicone reusable bags are sturdy, easily washable and safe for use in the freezer, microwave, dishwasher, boiling water, and even oven up to 400 degrees F.
The Porter Bottle
Here’s a PSA – BPA-free doesn’t necessarily mean chemical-free. That’s why you should opt for a glass bottle, which is why we love The Porter Bottle. The silicone wrap helps keep it from breaking and comes in a variety of colors. (We also think cute bottles help us remember to drink our water…)
Stojo Collapsable Coffee Mug
The stojo collapsible cup is perfect for your smoothies, shakes, coffee or anything beverage you’re drinking on the run. Not only is this cup sustainable, it’s collapsable manufacturing makes it a convenient alternative to disposable cups and bulky to-go mugs. Pro tip: Depending on the coffee shop, if you BYO coffee mug, they will often give you a discount on your beverage.
