There’s a good chance you’ve seen the hype around mouth taping. And I’m here to tell you it’s worth the hype-. More and more people taping their mouths shut before bed and swearing they’ve never slept better. dream recovery mouth tape

Here’s the deal: mouth taping is one of the simplest health hacks out there. It encourages nasal breathing, which is how we’re meant to breathe during sleep.

Nasal breathing improves oxygen efficiency, supports nitric oxide production (a molecule tied to cardiovascular, respiratory, and immune health), and can dramatically reduce snoring. It also keeps your mouth from drying out overnight—which means no more waking up with a scratchy throat or pasty tongue.

As you’d expect, a wave of mouth tape brands have flooded the market. But here’s the question: is there really a difference between them?

Short answer? Yes. Especially if you use mouth tape nightly like we do in our house.

Enter Dream Recovery —a brand gaining traction for its clean, skin-safe materials and clever, comfort-first designs. Over the past five years, my husband and I have tried nearly a dozen brands (including popular options like Hostage Tape, 3M, and generic kinesiology tape), and Dream Recovery’s lineup stood out. In this review, we’re breaking down all three of their tape options—and why Dream Recovery mouth tape might be the best on the market right now.

What Is Dream Recovery Mouth Tape?

Dream Recovery is a brand born from the sleep optimization movement. Their goal? Improve sleep quality using simple, effective tools rooted in physiology. They offer a selection of sleep optimization products, including blue light glasses, sleep masks, and even nose dilating strips. But here we’re focusing solely on their hero product: mouth tape.

They currently offer three different mouth tape options:

  • Dream Tape (full-coverage patch)
  • Dream Tape Strips (minimal, vertical strip)
  • Dream Tape+ (infused with vitamins and skincare ingredients)

Each tape is made from organic bamboo silk and uses a medical-grade hypoallergenic, non-toxic adhesive. But they differ in size, design, and purpose — which is what makes this brand unique.

Why We Picked Dream Recovery Over Other Well-Known Brands

As I mentioned above, I’ve been mouth taping for 5+ years now. I’ve tried nearly every brand under the sun, and here are my quick two cents on some of the better-known brands:

Somnifix: this was the first mouth tape i’ve ever tried – back in 2019. While it got the job done and is cost-effective compared to other brands (from $0.66 cents per use), it didn’t work well for my husband who has a big beard. The tape also felt a bit like plastic and feels uncomfortable compared to others.

The Skinny Confidential Mouth Tape:  We’re unsure of what the adhesive is made from, which raises a few questions. The design is cute (girly lips) but I personally find it unnecessary.  They come out to $1.03 per use.

Hostage Tape: While the company uses fabric for the material, we’re unsure of what the adhesive is made from. It mentions “pressure-sensitive adhesive” which sounds great in theory (uses minimal pressure to create a strong hold) but those adhesives often contain potentially harmful VOCs. While the tape works extremely well with beards, it also pulled off some dry skin on my lips and around the mouth – not a fun experience.

Full Breakdown: Dream Recovery’s 3 Tape Options

Dream Tape (Full Patch)

This is their original, flagship tape. It’s a full-coverage patch that gently seals the lips from corner to corner.

Key features: Organic bamboo silk fabric (breathable, antimicrobial), medical-grade hypoallergenic adhesive, and a smooth, soft finish.

Our experience:

  • Super comfortable, doesn’t pull on your skin when you remove it
  • Strong enough to stay on all night, even for those with beards
  • Extremely comfortable

Price: Around $27.95 for a 30-pack, with discounts for subscriptions (down to $22.92/month)

Who it’s best for: Anyone looking for a dependable, everyday mouth tape. Especially if you have facial hair or sensitive skin.

Dream Tape Strips

The Dream Tape Strips are smaller vertical strips that are placed directly over the center of your lips. Minimal coverage, same material and adhesive.

Why we love them:

  • Less intimidating for first-timers
  • Still seals the lips effectively + stays put
  • You can drink water through a straw at night without removing the tape

My husband and I initially saved these to try last (we assumed more tape coverage = better results), but we were wrong. These might be our new favorite. They’re discreet, reliable, and work just as well as their full-coverage.

Price: $24.25 for 30 tapes, or around $19.89/month with a subscription

Best for: Beginners, light sleepers, or anyone who wants to tape but doesn’t love the idea of a full patch.

Dream Tape+ (Vitamin-Infused)

Okay, let’s talk about the wild card: Dream Tape+. This version infuses the bamboo silk and adhesive with skincare ingredients like collagen, Vitamin E and B, aloe, and CoQ10.

Our honest take:

  • We thought it was a gimmick. Until we tried it.
  • It does make your lips feel softer.
  • More importantly, it doesn’t peel off dry or chapped skin the way other tapes can.

It also has a bit of re-stickiness to it. I’ve taken it off to sip water, then re-applied it, and it still held. No waste.

Price: Around $35–40 for 30 tapes. Subscriptions can bring it closer to $30.

Best for: Wellness-forward, beauty-conscious users. If you want your tape to work and moisturize, this is your match. It’s definitely a splurge, but it feels premium in all the right ways.

Bonus points: It actually makes my lips look and feel smoother the next day, as if I put on a lip mask.

A Closer Look at Materials + Adhesive

Fabric:

All Dream Recovery tapes use organic bamboo silk. It’s breathable, antimicrobial, naturally hypoallergenic, and feels almost weightless on your skin. Bonus: it’s a more sustainable option than synthetic tapes.

Adhesive:

Dream Recovery mouth tape has medical-grade adhesive that is PFAS-free, non-toxic, hypoallergenic, and designed to stay on all night — without ripping off skin in the morning. With me having sensitive skin and my husband having a beard, we both had zero issues with it any of their tapes staying put. No irritation, no redness, no pulling – all things I experienced with other brands over time.

Which One Should You Choose?

If you’re looking for…

  • Comfort + eco-friendly material → Go with Dream Recovery
  • Budget-friendly intro → Try the Dream Tape Strips
  • Beauty + wellness in one → You’ll love Dream Tape+
  • Strongest hold / beard-proof → Hostage Tape still wins on raw stickiness

Final Thoughts: Our Verdict

Dream Recovery nails the balance of clean materials, comfort, and clever design. Each option serves a purpose, and we love how they prioritize both skin safety and sustainability.

If you’re into wellness, optimizing your sleep, or just want something that won’t destroy your skin barrier, Dream Recovery is our top pick. Yes, they cost a bit more than some brands — but for something you use every night on your face, it’s worth it.

We recommend starting with the Dream Tape Strips or going all in with Dream Tape+. Either way, you’re getting quality.
