Here at The Hive, we’re big into home cooking. Don’t get us wrong – we love splurging out at our favorite restaurants. But after spending almost a year cooking from home, we’re all into optimizing our kitchens – and specifically, our cookware.

It’s no secret that cookware has the potential to be extremely toxic. Teflon, or non-stick, cookware has been shown to leach chemicals into food. Some manufacturers also coat their cookware with components that contain heavy metals like aluminum, cadmium and even lead.

Lucky for us, there’s a wide selection of non-toxic cookware on the market. But with such a wide selection of varying price points, its hard to know what to invest your money into.

After testing out a variety of non-toxic cookware, we decided to try out Abbio to see what all the hype was about. And we’ll be honest when we say… we’re a fan.

The Company

Abbio is a direct-to-consumer kitchenware company designed to inspiring home cooks  with quality, professional-grade cookware. “We only sell direct-to-consumer so we can keep prices low and share our passion for cooking with as many people as possible.”

Abbio is short for abbiocco – an Italian for “happy, drowsy, and satisfied after a big meal.” AKA -that moment of bliss after the best meal of your life.

The Cookware

Abbio is about kitchen minimalism. They intentionally developed a 5-piece set to serve every cooking function without the need to splurge on  a 15 piece set.

Abbio’s current selection:

  • Stock Pot: A 9.5-inch diameter pot and lid with a 6-quart capacity that is oven safe up to 500 degrees.
  • Small Non-Stick Skillet: An 8-inch non-stick fry pan that is oven safe up to 450 degrees.
  • Large Non-stick Skillet: An 11-inch diameter non-stick fry pan that is oven safe up to 450 degrees.
  • Saute Pan: A 10-inch, 3-quart pan with lid. Comes with a handy stainless steel helper handle.
  • Sauce Pan: A 2-quart x 7-inch diameter stainless steel pan that comes with a fitted lid. It is oven safe up to 500 degrees.
  • The Set: All five cookware pieces in the Abbio collection.Abbio cookware review

Why We Love Abbio

Pans are 100% non-toxic. Abbio cookware is thoroughly tested by a 3rd party lab before delivered to our customers, and Abbio does not use PFOAs or other harmful chemicals in the manufacturing process.

They use tri-ply construction on all of their products. They use a 3-layer design with a heat-conductive aluminum core and a layer of stainless steel on the pan’s interior and exterior.

Even heat distribution. Unlike the Caraway or Greenpan, we found that our Abbio heated up and cooked evenly.

Oven-safe. Abbio pans are oven-safe, so there’s no need to transfer your food to another dish in cases where you want to start or finish your meal in the oven. The non-stick cookware is oven safe up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit, while the stainless steel pieces can withstand heat up to 500 degrees.

Sleek, beautiful design. Their classic cookware looks timeless, no matter where you use or store it.

Easy to clean. A big one for us. Dishwasher safe but cleans best when washed by hand with warm, soapy water.

Our Favorite: The Sauté Pan

The perfect pan for searing, frying, and braising. You get consistent heat over the entire cooking surface of this sauté pan, no matter how much you put in it (goodbye, unevenly cooked food.)

The Abbio sauté pan is just right size, no matter if you’re cooking for a group on having a solo night in. We’re also a fan of the extended helper handle which makes it easy to move around on and off the stovetop. Abbio cookware review

The Verdict? We’re Mega Fans.

If you’re looking for high-quality cookware that doesn’t compromise looks or  function, Abbio is for you. We love that its a competitively-priced, D2C cookware option for novices and seasoned chefs like. It cooked better than the GreenPan, Caraway and Our Place sauté pans – making it our top choice for non-toxic cookware. Abbio cookware review
